Gardening Workshop At the Library

One of the pleasures of summertime is loading up on books at the library and basically eating them. Some of my favorite reads this summer: Hattie books by Kirby Larsen; Gordon Korman -- I particularly enjoyed Schooled; lots of Jerry Spinelli, Richard Peck, Robin LaFevers, Neil Gaiman, Margaret Peterson Haddix. Oh, and the new book by Ruta Sepetys. I should keep a reading log because now I'm forgetting some of the wonderful authors I read. But you can see that almost all of it is children's literature. The adult fare was all nonfiction.

I was picking up some books at the library and the librarian alerted me to my books on display. The others in the series were checked out! Always such a thrill. Anyway, we got to chatting about our basil and tomatoes, and before I knew it, I was volunteering to do a little workshop on gardening. Here's the blurb:

Coming up next month is a special program with the children’s author, Vijaya Bodach. You will learn to grow a pizza and to build a sunflower house!  This local author has written many books for children: Seeds, Stems, Roots,  Leaves, Flowers, Fruits , and the math concept books Tally Charts, Bar Graphs, and Pie Charts, and many more.

That sounds like so much fun! Must be great to see your books on display.
I've been reading some lovely books this summer, too--our librarians are getting to know me pretty well. (For an introvert, I DO know a lot of librarians. :)

How cool! I love the 'grow a pizza' part- that should bring the kids in droves... =)

I love your phrase "eating books." I am doing the same thing this summer, and enjoying the feast! = ) So COOL to see your books at the library!

Awesome! That sounds like tons of fun. We've been haunting the library as well, coming away with 25 or 30 books every two weeks. I'm reading a non-fiction account of the exorcism that inspired the movie Exorcist. Scary, but a side of the faith that I want to be more aware of. In our modern world it is too easy to overlook the fact that our Catholic faith is truly a supernatural faith.

Faith, I love librarians! Always such a font of information.

Leandra, I even found a kid's book with that title and bought it for my family.

Becky, when my kiddos were little, they literally chewed on their books, but now we do it metaphorically.

Gary, I still haven't seen the Exorcist. And after watching The Rite, I'm not sure I could. It was too scary for me. I had nightmares that subsided after I prayed some deliverance prayers. But I agree with you that we need to be aware of evil, so that we can fight back.

What a fun blurb! "Grow a pizza" should really bring them in!

I don't think I have seen it, to be truthful. I ran across the journal of one of the priests involved on EWTN's website, and I wanted to know more of the reality of it. I've seen enough Hollywood horror in my life. My interest was also piqued earlier in the year when Pope Francis blessed an oppressed man and there was speculation as to whether it was an exorcism. It is a big mysterious world out there!
