While the Kids are Away ...

...the parents play :) We've been enjoying a temporary empty nest while our kids visit family in WA. I've been writing and cleaning and tidying up, hanging up some new curtains and not tripping over a slew of shoes, lacrosse sticks, and balls :) Michael and I have been cooking some gourmet meals, watching movies, taking walks, and praying the rosary in Latin.* And here's Michael indulging our cat -- she's 18 years old and dying, so if she asks for anything, she gets it, including his water. LOL. Naughty cat. Good dog!

* If you have an hour, praying the rosary in Gregorian chant is incredibly meditative.

We must be twins in the empty nest dept. For us it briefly ends this Friday, until...
How beautiful you say the rosary in Latin. Time was when Catholics the world over could pray together.

Sweet wet wishes for you 18 year old cat.

Mmm...I want to come to dinner. But I'd have to bring along 5 rambunctious kids! :)
I know it seems like a little thing, but this post made me so happy this morning. It's so nice to see a married couple content just to be with one another! You'll never run out of things to talk about when your kids are gone! I suspect the empty nest will be bittersweet, not miserable as it is for some!

Beautiful kitty! I'm impressed that she can still leap up onto the coffee table.
I visited with friends whose cat leapt onto the coffee table to get at the cheese and crackers there. The dog-parent in me made me shout, "NO," and the cat hopped back down. :-)

Mirka, enjoy! And yes, when we travel, we seek out the Latin Mass. Of course, I think it makes more of a difference when you're travelling internationally. It's funny, as much as I love Latin for prayer, so much of my prayer life is interior, without any words. My sister said it's an invitation from God and you accept.

Faith, you are always welcome here! And I'd love to meet your kiddos! They will love the food the comes off the Big Green Egg! This temporary empty nest was like a honeymoon ... though it seems the honeymoon never ended. The kiddos are travelling home today and I can't wait to have them home, tucked in their own bed, and telling us all the family stories.

Barb, I'm impressed that the cat listened to you! It's funny, when I was training my cats not to be on the counter, I'd spray them with a little water and say NO, but what they learned is not to be on the counters when I was around. LOL. I always saw paw prints on the counter when I came home from work. So I started keeping my bread in the oven. Looks like the cats trained me. LOL.
