We have a new shepherd! The first from the New World. The first Jesuit. Praise God!!!
Cardinal Bergoglio of Argentina is now Pope Francis!!!
Here's short article to give you some quick insight and a Wiki entry. Enjoy!
God bless you, Pope Francis.
When Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”
They replied, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
Simon Peter said in reply, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
Jesus said to him in reply, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father.
And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.
I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
(Matt 16:13)

I always enjoy reading your posts, Vijaya. I am not Catholic (I'm Presbyterian) but have followed this historic occasion with interest and awe. This is definitely a great moment in history!
I don't usually say this, and I definitely don't often type it, but: Woo-hoo!! :) I'm very excited. Pope Francis seems like an incredible, humble man. And a pope from the Americas? Wasn't expecting that!
I am not of the flock, but I find myself very happy about this also. A beautiful man, Pope Francis.
Becky, thank you for reading and letting me know ... and participating in this joyous and historic event. He is Papa Francesco to all Christians.
Faith, I still can't wipe the big smile off my face. And the more I read about him, the more I am wowed by his grace and humility.
Mirka, thank you.
