What We Can Do in Six Days

This is what happens when a friend writes to you and a local artist with "this has your name on it" and a link to the contest. At first, I thought, there's not enough time. But I thought, if Kris is willing, I can write it. I can write fast about things that are a very part of my cellular makeup. So, I contacted the brilliant Kris Manning and she said, "Why the heck not?" and we got to work. I love artists--Kris' style is so appealing and she made something that's complex easy to understand. I had so much fun working with her. I love that gecko so much! And have you ever seen a virus with attitude?

I uploaded the complete package with an hour to spare before deadline. I almost had a panic attack because I couldn't figure out how to do it...but Michael came to the rescue! Sometimes we PhDs really struggle with the simple things. lol. Here's a link to our page--Why in the World? It has the cover and a hastily replied interview. And here's the gallery of submissions. Lots of sweet covers.

I hope we win!!! Pray for us!!!

I saw the notice, and have a couple of possible stories. But I am not an illustrator, so I'm sitting it out. I hope you do win :D

Aw, Mirka, what a shame. You are a beautiful writer. Luck was on our side with both of us having a similar approach to our work. Clearing the decks and letting it rip. Thank you for your good wishes.

Good luck! I love the cover! And with your background and experience, you do seem well suited for this contest.

Barb, thank you. It really felt heaven-sent and best of all, a new friend and a beautiful book to share with kids.
