Blessing of the Pets

It was a gorgeous day for the blessing of the pets at Eastside Catholic. We brought our dog and the two new kittens. The older cats have already had their blessings, many times over.

Here's my son, trying to get the kittens out of the bag. I put a stop to that.

Father Bill blessing our dog. She barked, "AMEN!"

After we got home, I took a nap with one of the kittens. It's been a rough two weeks for me with intractable migraines ... these furry, purry pets bring such comfort and joy. God's creatures are marvelous ... and we are one of them as well.

I wanted to leave you with this Prayer of St. Francis, sung by Westminster Abbey Choir.
*
Make me a channel of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me bring your love.
Where there is injury, Your pardon, Lord.
And where there's doubt, true faith in You.
*
Make me a channel of your peace.
Where there's despair in life, let me bring hope.
Where there is darkness, only light.
And where there's sadness, ever joy.
*
O Master, grant that I may never seek.
So much to be consoled as to console.
To be understood as to understand.
To be loved as to love with all my soul.
*
Make me a channel of your peace.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned.
In giving of ourselves that we receive.
And in dying that we're born to eternal life.

Oh, I LOVE the blessing of the pets. Love St. Francis. He and St. Joan are my absolute favorites.

Lovely pix. Hope that nap with one of my kitty look-alikes was as peaceful as it looks. :)

Bish and Marcia, thank you. There is nothing more healing than kitty purrs and a beautiful day to boot. Saints are awesome. Tonight we watched a biopic on St. Anthony of Padua. We'll need to get one St. Joan soon.

You use a Gentle Lead on your dog too?? They are the best inventions to walk dogs! We have them for all three of our dogs because they can cause me to lose my balance.

Sunny is such a beautiful dog. When Buster gets old, we're thinking of getting a labradoodle because we love labs but not the shedding. You saw how sweet he was when you were here. We're hoping the next dog is just as well behaved!

Vanessa, thanks for stopping by! I don't know how you even have the time with your dear sweet baby keeping you busy all day. Your mom shares so much with me.

Yes, I love the gentle leader. It makes her more obedient and even D. can take her for a walk on her own around the neighborhood safely. Our neighbor just got a labradoodle. She's a cutie! I can just imagine you pushing a stroller and your three munchkins.

Donna, somehow I can imagine you singing the St. Francis prayer daily ... it is so beautiful.

Kelly, it's lovely to know of other parishes doing the same. Our pets do bring us great joy.

Ah, how did you know that St. Francis' prayer is just what I was needing? It really does help me get my priorities straight.
Blessings on you, dear friend.
