Summer Fun

I've been serious lately but I wanted to share with you some summer fun. The kids were  taking care of our neighbor's pets and here's an unusual one--a flying squirrel. Thankfully, they didn't lose the little fellow. They've been out with their friends and Max even got to visit with his girl. We had enjoyed her company so much when she stayed with us before Easter break, when their schoolwork went online. I loved having another daughter.

Friends of ours were giving away many books so Max carted home three boxes--mostly classics and history. Why, yes, I see some home organizing and tidying up in my very near future while the kids are still home to help :) And Dagny brought home this beautiful wedding dress. I can already picture her... and oh how we already pray for their future spouses. Sunrise, Sunset. How's your summer?

Lovely photos, Vijaya. Is anyone engaged officially? I was surprised by the ready wedding gown ;) We are nowhere there.
That pale "flying squirrel" is adorable

Thank you Mirka. No engagements yet but definitely discerning. And doesn't that wedding dress fit Dagny perfectly? And never worn! My friend said she got married in a dress like Vivien Leigh wears at the barbecue in Gone with the Wind. I love watching the squirrels in our backyard but never seen one of these. So cute!

Nice pics, Vijaya. :)

I've got that same edition of The Gulag Archipelago. Only read some of it, though. It got too depressing, and I had to quit. I intend to revisit it someday.

Thanks Jeff. Ooofff, that Gulag book does sound like a difficult book to read. But how timely too, because young people need to learn the evil of communism and socialism--it's anti-human. I've read two books by Fr. Walter Czisek--With God in Russia and He Leadeth Me--who spent 15+ years in the Gulag and it chronicles his spiritual journey. It's harrowing. One wouldn't expect it to be uplifting but oh it is because he's constantly reminding us we're in God's hands.

My best friend and maid of honour at our wedding played "Sunrise, Sunset" on the piano before we had photos taken at the house. Is the flying squirrel named Rocky? ;-)

What fun pictures! It looks like you're having a wonderful summer with all your kids at home. I look forward to the day when my boys have a girl to bring home. :)
I didn't know you could keep squirrels for pets. My roommate in college actually had a squirrel land on her face (there were a lot on our campus).

Barb, that's so lovely of your best friend to play for you. I love that song. It really captures how I feel about time.

Jenni, I think that squirrel is an exotic pet. I don't know about squirrels but rodents make good pets. My niece kept rats. We had dwarf hamsters--gosh our old cat loved watching him, of course contemplating how tasty he must be. lol.

Yes, it's been a good summer even in this pandemic and some of the blessings are a direct result of it. It's really made me trust God even more. Our kids have always had a knack for picking good friends and it's been a joy to get to know them.
