Reading, Writing, and Revising
I won another picture book over at Picture Book Builders! Jennifer Reinhardt's Playing Possum. I am quite partial to these nocturnal creatures even though they raid our garden on a regular basis, so I really enjoyed this book. Such a beautiful story that encourages the shyest among us to befriend another. Alfred and Sophia are a delight, as is her hat! At the back there's a description of the animals that appear in the book. I feel most like the porcupine :) 
I'd seen The Secret Life of Squirrels many years ago at B&N and decided I had to have it. I love watching squirrels and to have them photographed with miniatures is just darling. These aren't doctored photos--the author made the props and the squirrels came to investigate. She has a tripod set up to take pictures. The simple story and photos are beautiful. You must get it for the people in your life who love little things.
I have always wanted to go to one of Darcy Pattison's workshops on whole novel revision but could never make it happen. Well, the next best thing is her workbook, Novel Metamorphosis. I've been using it the past couple of weeks to revise my historical and so happy with the greater insights I'm having as a result of the exercises she's posed. I'm not even close to being done, thanks to an accident at the very beginning of my writing retreat, but there's no rush, right?

Cute rodents star in your PB highlights today.:) I love the possums & squirrels living in our back yard, even as I try to make sure our cats don't get entangled with them.
What is the accident you mention? Best wishes as you continue to revise with Darcy Peterson's book help.
Aren't PB rodents the best? Stuart Little, Wodney Wat, and now Alfred. But not for entanglements with real cats. Mine chatter when they see the wildlife through the window. The accident--I fell really hard and got so banged up my right shoulder might have a torn rotator cuff :( I'm taking a wait and see approach. Thankfully, no broken bones. And I can type with ease :)
These picture books are so adorable! I especially love the one with the real squirrels. We are such a fan of Scaredy Squirrel at our house (we have family jokes about it). I think we'd love this one.
I had the very fortunate experience of attending Darcy's workshop a few years back. Best writing event I have ever attended. I still use that book when I've revised other manuscripts. I hope she will come to your neck of the woods someday!
I'm so jealous, Jenni, you got to meet with Darcy, work with her. She came to my neck of the woods, when I lived in WA, before I was ready with a draft of a novel...
And Scaredy Squirrel! How fun. Nancy Rose has a host of these books with her miniatures. I want them ALL!
